A grant of just over £3,500 from the East Suffolk Boost Grant scheme and a grant of just over £8,500 from the East Suffolk Outdoor Playing Space Fund have provided funding for the new all ability play equipment, which has recently been installed at the playground. The 4 new pieces of play equipment, which consist of an inclusive roundabout (with seat and scooter), nest swing with rubber seat, sensory flower, and noughts and crosses panel, have been installed by our Parish Councillors, David Lugo and Jim Bird.
Money from the East Suffolk Outdoor Playing Space Fund will also be used for new signage to the playground.
The original quote from the supplier, covered both supply and installation of the equipment. David and Jim volunteering to take on the installation has meant that significant money has been saved and has made it possible for additional equipment to be included. Additionally, the play equipment suppliers advised our Councillors that extra charges would have been made by their contractors had we gone ahead with their installation quote, as additional specialist equipment has been needed due to the ground being a lot more solid and impenetrable than anyone had anticipated. A big Thank you to David and Jim for all of their hard work.
By coincidence, our ROSPA report was completed while some of the work was being carried out by David and Jim. The new equipment that had been installed at the time of the ROSPA inspection has all been given the thumbs up from the Inspector and he was very complimentary about the work that’s been completed.
David and Jim, with help from a few village volunteers, have also been putting in a lot of work to clear the undergrowth at the playing field and playground. This has enlarged the play area for the new equipment to be installed and has substantially enlarged the playing field area. This work is on-going.
Two villagers have kindly donated benches for the playground and playing field, and two more villagers with gardening background are kindly volunteering their time to put plans in place for a garden area to enhance this pleasant location for villagers to meet and spend time outdoors. Work at the playing field continues….
